Moderne is a Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ Leader. The difference is determinism.

“Moderne Platform provides market-leading capabilities for business logic and rules extraction via deterministic processes.”
Gartner, Critical Capabilities for AI-Augmented Code Modernization Tools, 3 August 2026
Gartner named Moderne a Leader in the 2026 Magic Quadrant for AI-Augmented Code Modernization Tools, one of only three vendors in the Leaders quadrant. Of the three, Moderne leads with a deterministic-first platform, where change runs accurately and at scale leveraging code as structured data, acting as a compiler-accurate model instead of an LLM working a prompt.
That placement reflects a bet we made early and never hedged. At enterprise scale, modernization requires tooling that reads code the way a compiler does, precisely and losslessly, across an entire portfolio. Agents powered by models are guessing through millions of lines, and hoping the tests pass does not hold up at that scale.
Why deterministic-first is the whole point
In its Key Findings section of the companion Critical Capabilities report, Gartner wrote that “when available, rule-based, deterministic tools used by an AI service can outperform a purely large language model (LLM)-based approach in codebase refactoring due to gains in time and resources needed for verification and testing.”
That principle is where Moderne started. We parse every repository into a Lossless Semantic Tree (LST), a compiler-accurate model of your code, with all of its types and dependencies resolved. So the model is exact. Then, with more than 10,000 deterministic OpenRewrite recipes, we enable transformation that follows rules, so the output is verifiable rather than probable. Framework upgrades, dependency migrations, and vulnerability fixes run across thousands of repositories at once, on any cloud, and the hallucination risk that stalls LLM-only tools is designed out of the loop.
We expose that same compiler-accurate data to coding agents as tools, through MCP and Skills and capabilities like Prethink and Trigrep, so agents reason against ground truth instead of inventing it. The result is fewer tokens, more precise execution, and predictable cost at scale.
What Gartner evaluated
Innovation. Gartner recognized Moderne for equipping coding agents with deterministic tools, including Prethink and Trigrep, that cut token consumption and improve execution precision by using compiler-accurate code data. It addresses the unpredictable cost and QA bottlenecks of probabilistic code generation at enterprise scale.
Product and service. Gartner credited the LST foundation and Moderne’s deterministic recipe library for fast, compiler-accurate framework upgrades and vulnerability remediation, noting that the platform excels at large-scale execution.
Offering strategy. Gartner acknowledged Moderne’s roadmap for coordinating autonomous, goal-directed modernization across large multi-repository estates. That roadmap points at an SDLC where people set intent and agents execute against a verifiable substrate.
Humans lead, agents operate
In this shift, humans lead and agents operate, both working from one source of truth. Moderne gives them a single toolkit. The LST sequences your codebase, recipes splice precise changes into it, and every change stays tracked, attributable, and auditable across every repository and every source control system. The agent plans, and Moderne executes. That is what lets an enterprise put AI to work on a legacy portfolio without loosening its oversight of the result.
While we are smaller than the two hyperscalers we share the quadrant with, we plan to keep the position the way we earned it: by doing the deterministic work that large-scale modernization actually takes.
