Director, Services Delivery
Lead the team and the partner network behind every Moderne Managed Services engagement, ensuring that every engagement translates into measurable business value and lasting customer satisfaction.
About the role
We are looking for a Director, Services Delivery to lead our professional services engine end to end. You will manage our internal Forward Deployed Engineering team, enable and govern our growing network of delivery partners, and own the plan, health, and outcome of every Managed Services engagement across our customer base.
This role sits at the seam between how we deliver and what customers get. You will lead scoping, partner with Sales on proposals and statements of work, staff and steer engagements, and serve as the client liaison and first escalation point when delivery gets hard. You will also build the operational backbone that makes services predictable: timesheets, burndowns, utilization, margin, and engagement health reporting that leadership can trust.
This is a technical leadership role. Our customers are among the largest engineering organizations in the world, running mass-scale code modernization and AI-driven engineering programs on Moderne. You will be driving outcomes that principal architects and VPs of Engineering care deeply about, so you need to hold your own in those rooms. A leader who came up through engineering is strongly preferred.
What you’ll do
Delivery Leadership
- Lead the internal FDE team, set the standard they deliver to, and develop their technical and consultative range.
- Own the plan and trajectory of every engagement, from kickoff through completion, including milestones, dependencies, risks, and success criteria.
- Serve as the primary client liaison for services work and the first escalation point for delivery issues, driving resolution with customers, internal teams, and partners.
- Establish a repeatable delivery methodology so engagements run consistently whether the work is done by our team or a partner.
Partner Delivery
- Help scale our delivery partner program, screening partners to decide who is qualified to deliver Moderne work.
- Design and run partner training and certification, covering OpenRewrite, the Moderne platform, and our delivery methodology.
- Oversee partner delivery quality through engagement reviews, customer feedback, and remediation.
- Manage partner capacity planning and engagement assignment to meet demand at the quality bar we set.
Commercial Partnership
- Lead scoping for services engagements, translating customer modernization goals into realistic effort, timeline, staffing model, and deliverables.
- Partner with Sales on proposals, statements of work, pricing, and services attach strategy, and act as the services voice in the deal cycle.
- Work with Customer Success and Sales to identify expansion opportunities across both product and services, using delivery insight to surface where customers need more.
- Own services forecasting alongside Sales, including pipeline, bookings, and resource commitments.
Services Operations
- Build and run the operating cadence for services: timesheet compliance, budget burndown, utilization, margin, and revenue recognition inputs.
- Maintain engagement status and health reporting, with clear signals on schedule, scope, risk, and customer sentiment that leadership and account teams can act on.
- Define and track the metrics that matter, including realized outcomes, partner quality, and customer satisfaction.
What we’re looking for
Required
- 10+ years in professional services, delivery, or consulting, including 5+ years leading delivery teams in an enterprise software or consulting environment
- Proven experience owning services engagements end to end: scoping, staffing, delivery, escalation, and closeout
- Credibility with enterprise engineering leaders in technical conversations about modernization, application security, build and dependency management, and software delivery at scale
- Track record building or scaling a delivery partner or systems integrator ecosystem, including enablement, certification, and quality oversight
- Strong services operations background with hands-on ownership of timesheets, burndowns, utilization, margin, and engagement health reporting
- Experience partnering with Sales on scoping, proposals, and statements of work, and comfort carrying a services number
- Executive presence with the ability to navigate complex political and technical environments inside large enterprises, and to lead difficult escalation conversations
Preferred
- Engineering background: you started your career as a software engineer or architect and moved into delivery leadership, and you can still read code, reason about build systems, and pressure test a technical plan
- Background in developer tooling or application security
- Hands-on experience with Java and the JVM ecosystem, including Maven and Gradle, or other enterprise ecosystems such as .NET and Python
- Experience with OpenRewrite, static analysis tooling, or large-scale migration programs (for example, Java 8 to 17 or Spring Boot upgrades across thousands of services)
- Understanding of agentic development workflows, including AI coding assistants and LLM-driven code generation, and how services engagements evolve to support them
- Prior experience at a high-growth startup where the services function was built rather than inherited
