Watch this InfoQ panel, featuring Jonathan Schneider from Moderne, to learn how you can both use AI for yourself as well as integrate it into your Java applications to build things that you probably couldn't have built several years ago. Of particular interest, the panel talks about the uses and interplay of OpenRewrite deterministic recipes and AI for large-scale code transformation.
For large-scale code maintenance, Dov Katz from Morgan Stanley says that "[The AI] compute doesn't scale to 19,000 files, and so on. It's very expensive." He instead discusses a multi-tool strategy and the value of OpenRewrite: "I was just running some numbers based on 15,000 codebases, trying to do that Java upgrade..., and it came out to about 50,000 hours of time saved, which is about 25 full-time consultants here. Just on a Java upgrade to 21." Listen to the full conversation.
